The Biggest Problem with the “Average Wedding”

“I just want average food for my guests.”

“I’m not sure what kind of flowers I want… what’s everyone else doing for their wedding?”

“I’m going to do the most common color scheme for weddings this year, whatever those colors are.”

“Who is the most average photographer in the area?”

“I really want my guests to feel like it’s just another, average day.”

The biggest issue with all the publications out there that highlight the average cost of a wedding isn’t that they set unrealistic expectations (though that statement is usually true), it’s the fact that literally no one wants an average wedding.

If you find yourself searching for averages, stop and take stock of what it is you’re actually trying to answer. Are you looking for help estimating what your wedding will cost? Start with our wedding budget calculator. Want to be sure you’re not getting ripped off by your vendors? Ask your wedding planner, who has likely seen hundreds of proposals from a wide range of wedding pros. Trying to be modest so you don’t get criticized for going all out on your wedding day? Don’t invite the critics – it’s your day, do what you want.

The best thing you can do for your wedding is make it personal and add special touches, small or large, that your guests will notice and appreciate. That makes a big impact.
