Stephanie + Joseph
Liberty Hotel Wedding
Boston, Massachusetts
Stephanie and Joe had quite a memorable Liberty Hotel Wedding! The highlights include: threatening weather forecasts, doppler radars that didn’t look promising, a commitment to an outdoor ceremony regardless of what mother nature was going to deliver to us and the most perfectly-timed crack of thunder you could possibly imagine. Of course, we can’t forget the stunning details that were so carefully thought through: from the cream bridesmaid’s dresses to the groomsmen’s cummerbunds and the all white floral centerpieces – this wedding was downright flawless.
I was first introduced to Stephanie via email – she reached out to Contagious Events because she was done with booking her major vendors, but the wedding planning had lost its steam and she and Joe were at a standstill. Although they seemed to be on the fence about whether or not they needed a planner at all, ultimately they decided having their own, dedicated planner – even in addition to the venue coordinator – was a good decision. Joe described it as an insurance policy that would help them keep their sanity, and I think that’s a great way to describe the month-of-coordination package!
Like any wedding, we had a few surprises along the way. We coordinated a gorgeous chalkboard ceremony program sign and strategically sized it so that it could be read by guests, even from far away. Truth be told, we all underestimated its size, despite warnings from the ever-so-talented Posh and Prep, so coordinating delivery to the venue was no small feat. Perhaps the biggest surprise, however, was the weather: it was a beautiful sunny day all morning, but there was a threat of brisk afternoon thunderstorms. Knowing this, we planned for both scenarios but ultimately the venue coordinator made the judgment call and we were confirmed for an outdoor ceremony. As soon as the wedding party was lined up and the processional began, the Contagious team secretly obtained large golf umbrellas, just in case. Turns out, we needed them: it started to sprinkle just long enough for me to run down the aisle and deliver said umbrellas to the wedding party, protecting hair and makeup, and also to the DJ to protect his equipment. The officiant paused, and announced that we would continue the ceremony indoors, but Steph and Joe’s family and friends weren’t having it – they wanted the ceremony to continue. As if it were at our control, the rain stopped for the rest of the ceremony, but mother nature had one last surprise for us: just as the newlywed’s smashed the glass, there was a perfectly-timed (I’m talking, precise, people) crack of thunder loud enough to stun everyone within earshot.
I absolutely loved this wedding and this couple. Joe made it very clear that he wanted Stephanie to be happy, but he never once used it as an excuse to not be involved in the process. Our friends at Flou(-É™)r transformed the outdoor courtyard and ballroom with their florals, Unique Sounds Entertainment provided sound for the ceremony and kept the guests entertained throughout the cocktail hour and reception, Ali Rosa was on hand to document each moment and Justice of the Peace Priscilla Geaney worked with Steph and Joe to create a ceremony that was meaningful and personal.
