While disagreements may arise as you and your partner plan your big day, know that there are ways to tackle them!

We believe that planning a wedding should be a well-enjoyed experience! That’s why, here at Contagious Events, as Boston wedding planners, we have put together a guide to overcoming your own wedding planning disagreements. To learn how you can plan a wedding without unnecessary disagreements, be sure to keep reading for some great insight:

Take a breather

Sometimes, all you really need is a moment to let the dust settle and collect your thoughts. If things feel like they’re starting to get heated, take a deep breath and return to the conversation after you’ve both had some time to process. It may sound juvenile, but sometimes a quick time out is all you and your partner need in order to return to a productive wedding planning session!

Communication is key

Communication is essential to any relationship. It’s important to express your feelings and concerns calmly, so that your partner isn’t left guessing what is causing the friction. Remember, your partner is likely not a mind reader, and sometimes when we focus on something exciting like a wedding, we become so focused on the final product that it’s easy to get tunnel vision and forget the importance of the process. Don’t forget that communication works two ways: it’s equally important for you to communicate your own feelings just as much as it is for you to listen to your partner, and understand what they are saying.

Prepare to compromise

Not every wedding planning disagreement needs to end in a compromise, but sometimes, finding the middle ground is the best solution. We recommend outlining a list of non-negotiables at the start of the wedding planning journey – the items that don’t make this list will likely be areas you should prepare to compromise on. Remember, finding ways for you both to be happy is not only essential to wedding planning, but to your marriage as well!

Wedding planning should be fun. It doesn’t have to be stressful. If fact, with these tips, you can extinguish any fires that arise while planning your big day!
