DISCO FUNK WEDDING
Nina and Bryan's disco wedding brought the party (and the personality) to Artists for Humanity in Boston.
What happens when a couple says “hell no” to cookie-cutter and “hell yes” to color, sparkle, and unapologetic fun? You get this disco wedding—a wild, whimsical, and wildly personal celebration that turned the AFH Epicenter into a full-on retro fever dream.
This wedding wasn’t about following rules—it was about throwing glitter at them, dancing on top of them, and setting them under a mirrorball. And yes, it was every bit as magical as it sounds.
MEET THE COUPLE: VISIONARIES WITH VIBES
From day one, these two made it clear: tradition could take a backseat. They wanted a wedding that felt like them—bold, joyful, and dripping in personality. The vibe? Disco, darling. Not in a kitschy, 70s costume-party way—but a sophisticated, design-forward homage to self-expression, movement, and glam.
Think: Studio 54 meets high-fashion editorial with a splash of neon nostalgia.
The couple didn’t want to just host a party. They wanted to create an experience—something their guests had never seen before and would never forget.
a venue transformed
The Artists for Humanity Epicenter gave us the bones, but we brought the soul. When we first walked the space, it was a blank slate—clean, modern, a little understated. And that’s exactly what we wanted. It gave us the freedom to dream big and design bigger. Bonus: Nina and Bryan loved that their rental fee would support the arts: a cause near and dear to their hearts.
We layered in light, color, and unexpected elements—giant mirrorballs, bold floral installs, and cheeky interactive moments that told guests exactly what kind of night they were in for. Shenanigans (our boutique rental sister company) worked overtime to bring in custom pieces that didn’t exist yet—like the neon acrylic table numbers, a disco bar that featured spinning disco balls inside the bar, and incredible aerial streamers throughout.
disco wedding, but make it designer
This wasn’t a theme... it was a point of view. Every design element had purpose, from the palette (a saturated blend of magenta, tangerine, and electric blue) to the materials (chrome, glass, and velvet galore).
Highlights included:
An epic dance floor with our aerial streamers and a suspended disco ball overhead with intelligent lighting; A quirky floral plan: Glass Onion really understood the assigment with quirky arrangements in a bold palette; Color-drenched ceremony space where color was centerstage; and An experiential bar featuring Shenanigan's signature 8' disco ball wall and disco shadowbox bars
Everywhere you looked, there was something to discover—and photograph. And pin. And talk about for weeks.
the party energy: all vibes, no pretense
This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a night-long dopamine rush. From the moment guests arrived, they were swept into an atmosphere that was electric and intimate all at once.
The ceremony kicked off with a live string rendition of classic disco hits—because, of course—and the aisle was more runway than tradition. After the “I dos,” the energy never dipped. Guests walked through a shimmer tunnel (yes, a shimmer tunnel) into cocktail hour, where passed apps were served on mirrored trays by servers in jumpsuits with fringe. Subtle? Nope. Memorable? You bet.
The reception was pure fuel. The couple skipped formal dinner seating and opted for mixed-height tables and cozy lounge zones. Think dance club meets art installation meets the coolest party you’ve ever been invited to.
The music? A curated mix of disco classics and funky modern remixes that kept the dance floor full from the first beat. And yes, there was a surprise set from a live saxophonist who emerged mid-DJ set to tear the house down.

Pulling off a wedding this bold isn’t just about “good taste;" it’s about production. This wasn’t a plug-and-play template. Every detail was a custom solution, from custom fabrication to mood-specific lighting cues.
Our role? We weren’t just planners—we were creative collaborators, problem solvers, vibe curators, and experience designers. Our team orchestrated dozens of moving parts, worked with specialty vendors, and built out elements through our sister company Shenanigans that simply didn’t exist off-the-shelf.
